The art of procrastination...

I'm kind of a procrastinator.  About eight years ago I bought what I thought was a beautiful french caned slate blue daybed on Ebay, but when my perfect piece of gorgeousness showed up, it looked more like a pea green version of ugly which wasn't exactly the look I was going for.  So when I looked at Big D who was wearing his I TOLD YOU SO face after his many warnings about buying furniture on Ebay, and the YOU PAID WAY TOO MUCH FOR THAT face... I said, "No worries, I'll just paint it and upholster it and it will be perfect."  Flash forward eight years, and I did paint it.  Well I painted part of it...and that's when the procrastination set in.

It looks kinda great doesn't it...I mean the part that I actually painted!

So to add insult to injury, Big D threw away my paint that I was mid creative procrastination project on so now I have to start from scratch...HOW COULD HE??

Here are some daybeds that are already gorgeous...

Cheeky quote of the day...

"Sometimes when my internet is down, I forget that the rest of my computer still works."

Barn doors aren't just for the barn...

I have so many imaginary houses that I like to decorate on a regular basis.  I keep a gazillion files on every part of a house that I find captivating, creative, and ultimately not mine.  I have my living outdoors file, my dining room file, my bedroom file,  my holiday decorating file, my art file, my slipcover file...I could go on, but I think you get the picture.  Not quite an episode from A & E Hoarders, but close people...very, very close.  In one of these imaginary homes, I want to use barn doors, and not on a barn.  Not that I don't want a barn, I would love a barn.   That would fit quite nicely into my imaginary country farm house scenario where said home was endowed with a wrap around porch, reclaimed pine floors that have a "story", and an 1800's barn brought back from the brink of demolition where I'd have quaint country soirées and raise goats that mingle amidst lavender covered hills while I'm making cheese and organic soap...see what I mean.

Here are some barn doors that would look great on the inside.

These will be in my imaginary beach house...

Cheeky quote of the day...

"I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong"~unkown

Nook /nuk/-a secluded or sheltered place; retreat

There is something about a tiny little space, a bit of a hiding spot that is incredibly nostalgic because it seems as though you don't see too many of them in new homes, they seem like something from the past.  I especially love a breakfast nook which makes you want to cozy up with a hot cup-a-joe...decaf, grande, non-fat, with whip, extra hot mocha please...cuz ya need a little whip people...and linger a while.

Here are some of my favorites

I love them filled with great pillows...

Objet d'art...

Art is one of those things that is so subjective no matter what particular medium you choose to express yourself in or find yourself purchasing.  As much as I love beautiful sketches, oils, or watercolors and enjoy displaying them in Chez Cheeky, my most precious pieces of art are the ones from my three niños.  I put them up on full display as I would a Chagall...not that I actually own a Chagall, nor do I know anyone who does, but I've seen lots of them, and they are pretty much perfectly perfect.  OK, on second thought maybe I'd put the Chagall front and center in the entryway or over a fireplace, but I digress...anyhoo, you get my point. We have a little room off the kitchen that works as a homework/art studio and it is a hot mess most of the time, but the kids get creative in there, and I love it!

baby girl self portrait...
 Work in progress...
From the time they were itty bitty...

From the hand of a two year old who is now as tall as me...

I think this was 6th grade...

And the oldest prefers photography...

And I can only draw stick people...what is that about?

Nothing makes a room like an amazing chandelier...

Who doesn't love something sparkly, crystal, and dramatic in the middle of a room?  Chandeliers can be the cherry on the cake of an already pretty great space.  There are great ones out there whether you are on a champagne or beer budget...

I'm guessing this French Empire chandelier would fall under a champagne budget...how great is it!
