Down by the sea...

We are loaded up and ready to head out for a great week at the beach in the panhandle of Florida on a small stretch of road called 30A.

Debby has finally left, thank you very much, just in time for us to spend a glorious week in the most beautiful place on earth.  Sunscreen, check.  Bathing suits, check.  Big D's sail boat, check.  T-shirts, shorts, cotton sundresses, hair clips, sun hats, head bands, beach towels, cooler, never ending supply of snacks, coffee cake, 3 beach worthy books, camera's x 3...(photographer in the family), big fat noodles for floating, flip flops for beach, proper sandals for shopping, 1 classic wedge just in case, band-aids, zit cream (because apparently I'm still in puberty people), Keurig coffee maker...check!  (those individual sweet little "hey ya'll what kinda coffee are ya feelin like today" things are too much to leave behind!)  OK, let's for a moment forget the 99 other things I didn't list, because my wee little digits were getting tired.  The fact that we are bringing our Keurig coffee maker is, let me be the first to say, ridiculous.  We are at least leaving behind (I think, I haven't actually gotten an actual Big D confirmation on this) the Cuisinart Blender behind which can quite successfully blend a plethora of delish libations...

But it's all about the beach...
This would be a perfect fit on 30a...

This is almost identical to my beach hat, not so much my suit because a white suit against my irish skin will just not do...

And bask in the umbrella covered beaches along the way...

Now, what else do I need to take?

Tropical Storm Debby is pissing me off...

We are headed to the beach in just a few days and WTH Debby, why are you trying to mess with my travel plans?

I'm also wondering whose bright idea it was to spell Debby with a Y.  It's not that I have some kind of special allegiance to all the Debbies out there.  Debbie sounds like someone that might have been my baby sitter back in 1972.  Debbie would have worn the coolest wide legged frayed jeans with double zippers at the waist, had long platinum locks, said things like "groovy" and "man" a lot, whilst teaching me how to macramé.  Debby, on the other hand, is like all those silly people trying to make their name ever more original and special by just changing it up a bit like Stephany or Melany.
I've spent the entire morning going to different websites trying to track this realllllly slllllloooooow Tropical Storm situation that is moving at 2mph and no one can tell me where it's gonna go!

Make up your mind "Debby"

So I've been obsessing just a wee little bit to the point that I could quite possibly send myself into a panic attack with all the hot mess potential this could mean for the most optimal travel experience, which does not include torrential rain, tropical storm force winds, and a tornado or two popping up for good measure.  Big D has told me to take a valium, which A, I don't have and B, Xanax would fit the bill more efficiently if we are being specific with prescription pharmaceuticals, which is a moot point because none of those are laying around here either!

Because all I really want is to see this...

Not so much this, Debby, I'm talking to you...

So getty up already Debby with the "Y", I've got a mojito with my name on it and you're not invited for drinks...

Industrial clocks as statement pieces...

I love the look of big industrial clocks in so many different kinds of spaces.  The antique ones are my favorite, but there are many reproductions that look great too.  It's nice to have something that makes a statement in a room beyond a painting, photograph, or large mirror.  I bought one when we first moved into this house at The Mews in Dallas.  It was so ridiculously heavy, we had to have a special frame built behind it to be able to insure that it wouldn't fall off and whack somebody in the head!

This is gorgeous...
Loving this one...

So many great ones...
Love this idea of stenciling the numbers on the wall!

Ikat prints are everywhere...

Ikat prints, pronounced eekat, seem to be everywhere these days.  Ikat is the method of printing woven fabric by tie-dying the yarns before weaving.   I love the look of mixing a few interesting prints against basic solids to liven up the look of a room.

Love this look of mixing the Ikat print with a variety of other prints...
This is more of a statement piece...
Love this gray medallion Ikat print...

On the runway...

And just about anywhere...

These are great for the beach...

Time for a bit of color...

You all know how I feel about the color blue.  I think that color defines us in so many ways depending on where we are at any particular moment in our life.  Of course fashion and the flavor of the moment always comes into play, but there are certain elements we are drawn to again and again...for me it's blue.  What does that mean?  Well, I googled it and apparently blue (like we needed to be told this) has a calming effect.  Well yes it does, and so does a crisp class of Sauvignon Blanc, but I'm not decorating my house with it.  Blue apparently is the color that is seen as trustworthy, dependable, and committed.  Something that is a constant in our lives.  It is also the most popular color, not surprised by this actually, although there are some really bad blues out there!  Here's to the right kinds of blues...

The Benjamin Moore 2012 color of the year...Wythe Blue
Which looks gorgeous next to the 2012 Pantone color of the year...Tangerine Tango...

Loving this!  This velvet peacock blue is to die for!
Gorgeous, maybe the most perfect color pallet ever...

This one's pretty great too...

Oh my, I mean who doesn't what to do it up proper like Marie Antoinette...

I mean really...

Spending time in New Orleans...

I just got back from an amazing weekend in New Orleans with Big D for our 22nd wedding anniversary, and we had the best time!  I haven't been there in years.  I have been there exactly twice before, once with strollers and car seats in tow on the way back from a week in Florida to check out the city for a few hours...big mistake.  Bourbin Street is A...gross, and B...not so much made for a stroller, wee little toddler eyes, and C...one needs a drink whilst partaking in a New Orleans situation and strollers and car seats don't mix with that whole scene particularly well.  The second time was still with ninös in tow, yet we stuck to Magazine Street with all their fab antiques and amazing shops.  This time we spent time in this historic city walking the uneven streets that were never meant for strollers, or flip flops, which sadly I wore the whole weekend when I wasn't wearing wedges at night which complicated walking in this town even more!  The thing about New Orleans is that you have to embrace all its imperfections to see the beauty between the cracks.  Another thing...Bourbin Street is still gross, but the city is amazing!
The Architecture is beyond beautiful...

We stopped for lunch at a quaint little spot called Café Amelie...

With adorable chandeliers...

It's a beautiful space...
Loved their bathroom with the old paintings...

Then out for dinner at The Three Muses for the best music and the food was great too, we had lamb burgers, and Feta Fries, yummy!  The next day it was touring the city (we actually were stalking Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's house, and I think we found it!)

A snack at the famous Cafe Du Monde...

Stopped for an afternoon drink at the Hotel Monteleone, which was incredibly swanky...
And did a little people watching...
Then time for an evening out for cocktails, dinner, and music.  We went the Roosevelt's
Sazerak Bar which was a great place to start off the night...

Dinner at the fab Arnauds, oh and the dessert of bananas foster!
