Tasty treats for Super Bowl!

Here at Casa Cheeky, we always do a little somethin somethin for the Super Bowl even if it's just the family.  One year we threw a big party where I made Cincinnati chili that was to die for, chicken wings, and all the munchies to go along with it.  That year, sadly, the power in our neighborhood went out right after half time for who knows what reason!  No bad wind, no lightning, no torrential downpour...nothing!  Can you believe that?  People were all "um, yeah, thanks for the chili...got to go now...later gator!"  Big D and I were stuck with hoards of beer, which I'm sure he found something to do with at some point or another, and way too much leftover food.  For the past few years, our usual modus operandi is making a run to Hooters (yes that's right Hooters people, cuz they are supa tasty!...) they do honestly have the best chicken wings don't ya think?  So I get some chicken wings, make various snacks, pop a beer and watch the commercials...I mean the game!!  I really do love football truly, but I love the Super Bowl commercials just as much!

Here are two things you might want to try that would be perfect for your party.  G'head get your fat pants on, because this my friends will stretch the muffin...

Cheeky In Blue's Bitchin' Brisket BBQ

and

Brown Sugar Oatmeal Coconut Chewy Cookies

from

The Dough Will Rise Again blog

So this...

and this...

Cheeky In Blue's Bitchin' Brisket BBQ

For the rub a dub dub...
2 tsp celery salt
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp onion salt
1/2 tsp cracked pepper
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce

For the Bitchin' Brisket...
1 4-5 lb fresh beef brisket
1 cup Russian salad dressing, OR... 1 cup French salad dressing plus 2 T honey
1 cup bottled spicy BBQ sauce...this is key, because it rocks the bitchin' part of the BBQ
1/4 sugar

Potato Rolls are the perfect bun for this or your personal fave yummy bun to put BBQ on
Coleslaw

In a bowl combine all the ingredients for the rub a dub dub...

-Rub it on the brisket

-Place into a larger crock pot and put on high for 5 1/2 hours or low for 10-11.  I have made this in the oven, but the crock pot makes for a much more tender piece of meat.  If you don't have one stick it in a 300 degree oven, covered with foil, for 2 1/2-3 hours.

-Remove from crock pot/or oven and cool for a few minutes
-Take off any remaining fat or gristle that you might see, anything that looks yuck!
-Cut across grain into very thin slices
-Place into another roasting dish

The Sauce
-Mix together the salad dressing, spicy BBQ sauce, and sugar
-Pour over sliced brisket
-Bake at 325 degrees for around 45 min give or take

And Bam...so good I can not tell you!

Now for the sweet stuff...

Brown Sugar Oatmeal Coconut Chewy Cookies

OK first things first, do not be afraid of the coconut in said recipe.  I am not a coconut person, I'm not horrified by it, but I don't seek it out for toppings on my ice cream, and I would actually throw out an Almond Joy if it wound up in my candy bag as a kid on Halloween...so don't be scared of this, because it's what makes the cookie so chewy and yum...I promise!

For the tasty mix
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter at room temp
1 1/4 brown sugar packed
3/4 cup sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 cup quick cooking oats
1 1/2 shredded coconut (you can use less, but don't be scrarrrrreed!)

-Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees
-Cream butter (at room temperature) and sugars together
-Add eggs one at a time until well incorporated
-Add vanilla
-Add baking powder, baking soda, and salt to the wet mixture
-Add about 1/2 the flour until JUST incorporated...careful here, don't over mix.  Scrape down sides of bowl as you go, add remaining flour...DON'T OVERMIX...otherwise tough cookies and your muffing won't be happy...
-Add in oats and coconut...again DON'T OVERMIX!!!
-Roll dough into balls about 1-1/2 inches and place on parchment lined cookie sheet
-Bake 8-10 minutes until the cookies are JUST browning around the edges

And the voilà...

Oh and have one of these too...

Things I'm loving right now...

Everyone has those things they just can't live without, or certainly don't want to!  That perfect pair of jeans that always seem to fit you even when you've neglected the gym for far too long, or the comfiest pair of sweats that you can't wait to pour into at the end of a long day.

These Jane boots by Frye are a must and I've had them for something like five years and wear them constantly...
...as you can tell by their desperate need of repair!

This is the best hand cream EVAH!   L'OCCITANE en Provence hand cream! No really, this will completely save your poor cracked hands this time of year if you are anything like me and wash your hands like mad to avoid getting the plague, I mean flu that is everywhere right now!

Your hands will feel sublime

My Burt's Bees Lip Balm is with me 24/7!  I have one in my purse and one beside my bed people!

I love this Dior Addict 797 lip color for the winter months.  It adds a little color when you are pale and it goes great with grays, browns, and a whole host of others...

You can also blend a little of the Dior Addict 454, (my fave barely there pink) on top of it to soften the look a bit

I love and am obsessed with my oh so warm and snuggly North Face Fuzzy Osito jacket that Big D got me for Christmas!  I wear it all the time...I'm wearing it now...I may sleep in it!

Swiffers!  I can not go without these!  They save me with my three little mops of fur that run around creating constant dust bunnies!
I love my fireplace, and I love that little Blue has pooped out in front of it...finally...

Perfect palette for the beach...

We are so very excited to be starting Beach Cheeky in just a few short weeks, and I have definitively decided yes on the fireplace!  One of the other things that I've been putting a lot of thought into is the what kind of color palette I want to go with throughout the home.  I am light and bright all the way, which will be very easy at Beach Cheeky, because the first color we are starting with is all white board on board walls throughout the house.  I have never had a home with white walls, but I think it's fitting for the beach and gives that crisp clean fresh look that you want when you are dragging sand in all over the place!

Something like this, actually very much like this because this is one of the builders homes in progress...

The countertop will be white Calcutta marble, which is just a little less gray than Carrera....
Calcutta is a bit whiter with gray and sometimes slight gold veining...

And while each slab can dramatically vary, Carrera typically has a lot more gray running though it, as well as tinting the color of the marble to a grayish tone, this is the floor in my daughter's bathroom which is Carrera, but I did the counters in the whiter Calcutta...so feel free to mix away!

But what to do for the the splash of somethin somethin?  Well, yes, it will be blue, but which blue?

I am torn between various palettes.

There's the always gorgeous aqua, and you really can't go wrong with this color, because it screams beach!  It's certainly a happy blue...
There's more subtle colors like this one I took of a door in Dallas that I love at a store called Blue Print
and the paint color is Pantone 292...

There's more of an indigo blue...very snazzy...

I brighter more caribbean blue...

But which one is Beach Cheeky in Blue?

Swing arm lighting for the beach, or wherever!

I love the look of swing arm lighting in the right space in your home.  It looks somewhat modern, but can be easily placed in a traditional room to give it a fresh look.  I want to put some of these lights into Beach Cheeky, I'm thinking in the kitchen over some windows and possibly in the hallway...

This is a great way to get the swing arm look, love it!  Seriously!
