It's a story about the upstairs/downstairs goings on of the aristocratic Crawley family and their help that live downstairs...and I love every delish moment of it! That's Carson the butler, and he's positively snooty as can be and so fun to watch!
Maggie Smith is so great as the gossipy grand ma ma, Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham...whatever that means!
She is such a hoot saying the most cheeky things like...
The sisters Ladies Mary, Edith, and Sybil Crawley...
The heir to the Crawley fortune and beloved Downton Abbey, Matthew Crawley played by Dan Stevens...
It makes you want to jump back in time and experience it all for yourself!
Exactly right!

"Of Course it would happen to a foreigner, no Englishman would dream of dying in someone else's house"
and"We can't have him assassinated...I suppose..."
and
"What's a weekend?"
There is the patriarch of the family Hugh Bonneville, the Earl of Grantham, and Elizabeth McGovern, the Countess of Grantham who is American in the story...The sisters Ladies Mary, Edith, and Sybil Crawley...
